MEP Manager - Kansas City, MO

Individual has shown proficiency in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design concepts, estimating and construction basics.  Dedicated to a market/region and supports the project preconstruction and operations team members.                      


Follows standard McCownGordon procedures and policies to accomplish the following:

Project Development

  • Marketing: Assists team with material for proposals, qualifications, interviews or marketing as needed.
  • Relationships: Builds new and retain/strengthen existing relationships with trade partners, consultants and potential clients.
  • Networking: Attends MEP industry events and begins networking in the industry.
  • Client Development: Begins to develop client relationships.
  • Pursuit Assistance: Supports project team with pursuit assistance.
  • Interviews: Attends interviews as requested and presents on departmental role
  • Conceptual Information: Assists project team with conceptual estimating and system types.
  • Energy and/or Cost Modeling: Gather relevant information for LCCA e.g. utility rates, equipment costs, maintenance costs, equipment life, rebates and incentives. Runs various programs to provide LCCA and provides work product for project team.



  • Document Reviews: Supports team in MEP document review. Identifies optimal and innovative solutions and VE opportunities.
  • System Analysis: Performs preliminary system analysis and develop high level associated cost and provide work product for project team
  • Estimating: Assists project team with MEP estimating at various design stages, reviews preconstruction and trade partner estimates and provides input related to engineering trades.
  • Design/Cost Options: Assists MEP design/cost options at various design stages to project team.
  • Cost History: Supports cost historian and Director with maintaining cost history database.
  • Project Scheduling: Informs project team of long lead time items and makes recommendations for procurement and replacement.
  • Trade Partner Collaboration: Understands trade partners strengths, makes recommendations for specific project types and assists preconstruction team with trade partner selection. Provides and asks for feedback from preconstruction and construction teams on performance for tracking in a database.
  • Design Assist Process: Writes conceptual narratives for related MEP systems including sizing, layout and coordination requirements.
  • Scope of Work: Reviews MEP scope of work documents editing by project management staff.
  • Bid Evaluation: Assists preconstruction manager with MEP bid evaluations, provides analysis and makes recommendations.
  • Rebates/Incentives: Understands available rebates and incentives and brings them to attention of the project team.



  • Meetings: Attends MEP trade and / or consultant coordination meetings regularly.
  • Submittals: Reviews specific MEP submittals on select projects and provide feedback to operations team.
  • Change Orders: Reviews change orders on select projects.
  • Site Observations: Attends site reviews regularly for assigned projects.
  • Troubleshoot: Assist project team with troubleshooting as needed.
  • Oversight for High Risk: Assists with high risk trade partners



  • Training: Assists with development of internal training courses. Coordinates Third party training opportunities for the department.
  • Thought Leadership: Assists with writing white papers and developing presentations.
  • Mentoring: Mentors other associates to expand their knowledge of MEP Services. Mentors Specialist level and help them develop into managers.
  • Involvement: Attends professional, civic and philanthropic associations. Seeks committee opportunities.


Leadership and Development

  • Develops communication and other soft skills.
  • Looks for materials or workshops to participate in to refine skills.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements before going into job)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 5+ Years in MEP Experience
  • Proficiency in computer applications, preferably Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of sustainable practices and/ or LEED accreditation.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.



The position requires work in an office environment.
