2023 Summer Intern

Spotlight is seeking dynamic, energetic individuals who are eager to learn about our company through a paid internship. At Spotlight, it’s our mission to create and sustain successful analyst relations (AR) programs for our clients. As an intern, you will be working closely with our teams to conduct research, capture data, and create new materials for Consulting, Business Development, and several Operations teams. 

 

To be successful as an intern, you should be willing to help with any tasks assigned by a supervisor. Your work will be focused in a specific department where you will get a chance to immerse yourself in a specialty and gain transferrable skills. You will receive a basic understanding of analyst relations and be involved in a few cross-team collaboration projects for an even broader view of the impact on Spotlight’s work. 

 

Following the completion of the program and evaluated performance, interns may have the opportunity to continue part-time or full-time employment.

 

Sample Intern Focus Tracks:

  • Research – Perform industry research across various industries and subject matters 
    • Create informational materials for employees and clients 
    • Document, catalog, and maintain information resources
    • Data quality review
    • Research experience or education preferred
  • Business Development – Support Spotlight’s sales and marketing efforts
    • Conduct market research and identify potential clients
    • Collect and maintain client information in the CRM database
    • Collaborate with sales leadership and internal SMEs throughout the sales cycle
  • Learning & Development – Collaborate with the Learning & Development (L&D) team in organizing training programs that effectively develop employees 
    • Content creation and refresh of existing materials
    • Help manage a collection of learning assets for both internal and external use
    • Develop full-length and microlearning training sessions to support internal learning experiences
    • Help coordinate and support a variety of L&D initiatives
  • Data and Analytics – Work alongside Spotlight’s Insight Intelligence team to gather and analyze different data insight sources
    • Data analytics across a variety of sources
    • Dashboard building – Google Sheets, Google Studio, Qualtrics
    • Assist in building out data-informed battle cards for sales support
    • Template creation across several different formats – outreach, education, and client-facing
    • Data analytics experience or education preferred
  • Client Team – Support Spotlight’s marketing consulting teams through various projects and tasks
    • Expect to experience a variety of different internal and external facing projects – content creation, data collection, and research-based work
    • Get immersed in several of Spotlight’s tech clients’ analyst relations programs and learn more about how our delivery teams support tech company’s marketing efforts
    • Assist with several projects and client-facing deliverables
  • Software Development – Work with Spotlight's technology team to maintain and improve our proprietary tech platform, Spotlight Oz
    • Assist the development team with back and front-end coding
    • Gain exposure to a full product lifecycle
    • Interest or background in computer science encouraged
  • Operations – Help support all Spotlight employees while working with our Human Resources and Operations team
    • Interest or background in HR encouraged

 

Additional Intern Activities:

  • Fulfill tasks set out by supervisors from several departments
  • Assist in community outreach efforts
  • Attend company events and expand your professional network 

Intern Requirements:

  • Preference given to candidates who will begin their final year (or semester) of school next fall 
  • Must be Kansas City-based
  • Available to work approximately 40 hours/week from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023
  • Eager to learn and work with various departments in the company

  • An upbeat, fun, and engaging attitude
  • Excellent communication skills and style, and ability to work with many different audiences
  • Fundamental writing, research, and critical-thinking skills
  • Time management abilities to coordinate different deadlines across projects
  • Works well and collaborates with teammates
  • Should have a strong interest in the digital tech space but can come from a variety of different backgrounds including corporate communications, business, public relations, and/or marketing
