Summary Works within the agile process and is the authority for decisions regarding priority, business value, and functionality for all the work done by the Agile development team, taking direction from the Business Product Manager. Possesses an in depth knowledge of goals and desired objectives of the created or purchased Business Product(s).
• Acts as an integrated team member that represents, interfaces with and engages the business users.
• Uses clear goals to communicate the project vision with the team(s) and Stakeholders at the beginning of every release.
• Makes business decisions and clearly communicates requirements through epics and stories so they are understood.
• Communicates status outside the team in conjunction with the EPMOs formal status reports.
• Working with Stakeholders, creates, maintains, prioritizes, and sequences user stories and the backlog based on business value or ROI.
• Decides which user stories are scheduled into sprints, based on strategic business priorities.
• Provides rapid feedback.
• Participates, but doesn’t lead, project planning, daily stand-up meetings (scrums), reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meetings.
• Reviews work products and deliverables after every sprint, and has the authority to accept or reject.
• Reviews and approves testing strategy and results for each release.
• Provides progress updates, as needed, to augment formal status reports.
• Assists as needed with backlog maintenance.
• Assists with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
• Partners with the Technical Lead(s) in the prioritization and resolution of defects / bugs.
• Business Product Owner on multiple software modules or Business Products.
• Makes recommendations and provides input to the Business Product Manager on strategic direction, Business
• Product vision, Business Product selection and roadmaps.
• Is always accessible and participates proactively and constantly in the team activities.
• Steers the project to ensure delivery of business value.
• Is visible, vocal, and objective.
• Provides encouragement, recognition, and support to the team.
• Terminates the sprint if a drastic change-in-direction is required.
• Changes the course of the project at the end of the sprint if necessary.
• Manages vendor relationships, with input from the Business Product Manager and VMO.
• May negotiate contractual language in conjunction with the Business Product Manager, VMO, Legal, Security, and other stakeholders as necessary.
• Maintains day to day vendor relationships, as well as off-boarding and on-boarding users.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements
• Requires a Bachelor’s degree, but additional years of qualifying work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
• A Master’s degree is preferred, but not required.
Experience Requirements
• Requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience with demonstrated product owner success, leading teams, requirements prioritization, team leadership, and stakeholder management experience.
• Excellent, all-round communicator (visual, verbal, and written).
• Advanced negotiation skills.
• Proven leadership ability.
• Decisive.
• Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with diverse personality types.
• Ability to coach the team(s) to reach their highest potential.
• Creative and efficient in proposing solutions to highly complex, time-critical problems.
• Collaborative in driving decisions.
• Proven analytical and problem solving skills with a high attention to detail.
• Mindset to test one’s own ideas, run tests without bias, and trust in the process/data driven results.
Work Conditions
• Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
• Sitting for extended periods of time.
• Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
• Some travel may be required for the purpose of offsite software and system applications management.
