Youth Services Manager

Directly Responsible to: Executive Director
Supervises: Passages Program including interns and volunteers
The Youth Services Manager is responsible for providing culturally competent and trauma-informed advocacy services and education activities to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) youth (ages 14-20) and running Passages program. This position’s focuses are to connect survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, hate crimes, trauma and neglect to existing resources, and strengthen community response to violence against LGBTQ youth. 
This is a full-time (40hr/week), salaried, non-exempt position with paid health benefits, vacation and sick time. This position is primarily responsible to the Kansas City Metropolitan Area and outlying counties.

  • Develop and/or revise curriculum and workshops around issues of violence against LGBTQ youth for LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ youth.
  • Present trainings to youth, service providers, groups, and their clients in order to improve delivery service to LGBTQ victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and hate crimes.
  • Provide Technical Assistance to youth service providers and organizations serving youth including schools and school districts.
  • Keep thorough track of all statistics related trainings, outreach events, and collaborations through spreadsheets and databases.
Passages Responsibilities
  • Oversee Passages Program providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Oversee the advocates in proper day to day operations of the Passages including programming, overall space readiness, in-kind donations and volunteer management.
  • Partner with Passages youth to develop relevant and engaging programming.
  • Provide referrals and linkages to other KCAVP and community programs and services as needed.
  • Participate in the on-going development of Passages rules, policies and procedures.
  • Provide community referrals and linkages to Passages youth.
  • Participate in program outreach and program development.
  • Participate in the tracking of outcomes and use of outcome measurement tools.
  • Recruit and train Passages volunteers. 

Community Engagement
  • Assist in developing and coordinating events in the community to help raise visibility about LGBTQ youth violence and to organize people around the issue.
  • Represent KCAVP at meetings with other agencies to enhance survivor services for LGBTQ youth, particularly for communities facing multiple forms of oppression.
  • Develop outreach campaigns and materials with the Outreach department including brochures, posters, social media, web and other electronic mediums around issues of violence facing LGBTQ youth.
  • Collaborate with the LGBTQ community and business leaders to include KCAVP in their efforts whether that is posters and brochures for display, training of staff or volunteers, etc.
  • With the Executive Director and Programs Director, coordinate community, media and institutional responses to incidents of violence against LGBTQ youth.
Direct Services to Youth Survivors
  • Provide supportive advocacy services to LGBTQ youth victim-survivors of trauma, neglect and/or violence.
  • Assist survivors in developing and maintaining a safety plan.
  • Provide case management to survivors of violence including expanding the client’s resources and providing linkages to housing, education, health, employment, community and legal needs.
  • Cultivate relationships with people/organizations in the community in order to increase referrals for services. 
  • Develop and maintain client referral listings and safe contact list.
  • Facilitate support groups for LGBTQ youth victims of violence.
  • Assess the community and develop further services as needed.
  • Complete administrative duties including appropriate client record keeping and documentation.
Additional duties
  • Participate in staff meetings, team meetings and trainings that discuss enhancing services to LGBTQ survivors.
  • Assist with fundraising and marketing activities as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work or volunteer experience that would provide similar skills and experience is required. Work (volunteer or paid) in a domestic violence program, sexual assault program, bias crimes program or a similar field is strongly preferred.
  • Previous direct service experience with youth is required.
  • At least two years of experience working specifically with and around issues facing of LGBTQ youth strongly preferred.
  • Previous public speaking or training experience required.
  • Previous experience in curriculum development preferred.
  • Previous volunteer coordination experience preferred.
  • Experience working with the LGBTQ community is strongly preferred including sensitivity to the plight of LGBTQ people affected by violence is strongly preferred. Demonstrated cultural competence in working with diverse communities, including communities of color, immigrants, transgender persons, persons with HIV, and persons of varying ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Ability to travel to meetings and trainings within an hour+ radius of Kansas City in Missouri and Kansas regularly. Long distance and overnight travel may also be required.
  • Access to reliable transportation. If that is an automobile, a valid driver’s license with a clean record and current auto insurance is required.
  • A flexible schedule as some nights and weekend work is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including experience with internet and social networking communication.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and google drive.. 
  • Willingness for continued education.
  • Ability to lift 30+ lbs
