Description
Kansas City's LGBTQ+ Short Play Showcase returns!
Join us for a great evening of five short plays written by members of KC’s LGBTQ+ community!
This year’s plays include a young demisexual woman's search for understanding and love from her friends, a young man's first pride parade with his pet play community, and a play that answers how the show Succession might look if it were about a family of drag queens! Featuring works by Jason Coats, Pamela C. Hall, Ace Lovelace with Steven James, B. Michael McFarland, and Adam Yarbrough.
COVID PROTOCOL: For the safety of our community, all patrons will be required to show proof of vaccination at the venue. We are evaluating whether patrons will be required to wear face coverings during the performance.
TICKETS: $20
VENUE: Unity Performing Arts Center (Lower Level of Unity Temple on the Plaza) - 707 W 47th St, Kansas City, MO 64112
THE PLAYS: (Some plays contain adult themes) Each play is presented at every performance.
Unleashed by Jason Coats (he/him) - Jax is marching in his first pride parade. It’s also his first time in public with the local pet play community. His nerves get the better of him when he realizes he’s forgotten an important piece of gear and then comes face-to-face with a family member. Will he go home or will he find the courage to march?
The Emancipation of Emi by Pamela C. Hall (she/her) - Emi’s friends mean well, encouraging her to embrace her sexuality and express her affection for a mystery girl. But, as Emi discovers, when your friends struggle to understand how you even approach love, everything is a bit more complicated.
0 Feet Away by Ace Lovelace with Steven James (he/him) - Making connections is hard enough these days, but when you add in technology and opposing mystical entities competing for your future, it can be nearly impossible - even if a potential match is just zero feet away.
Giving Up by B. Michael McFarland (he/him) - An adopted man is finally getting answers about his birth family, but the information he learns may not be what he was hoping for.
The Fall of House Fabu by Adam Yarbrough - The legendary drag queen and fashion designer Sue Fabu is dead. Who will control her company - and her fortune - next?
