10:30 am & 11:20 am Breakout Sessions – Bloch Executive Hall – each attendee will have the option of attending two of the four breakout sessions
- Recruiting the Next Generation of Talent – In this candidate-driven job market, organizations need to reflect on their talent attraction and acquisition strategies. Recruiters and talent acquisition leaders must assess their processes to meet the needs of the next generation of talent. In this session, discuss best practices and effective strategies to help your organization stay competitive in the future.
- The Case for Hiring International Students – We all know the benefits of a diverse workforce. Hiring international students can fulfill a wide variety of diversity initiatives, including bringing diverse thinking styles and experiences, the very qualities that can help your team solve a sticky problem, expand to other markets, or develop new technologies. We will cover the ins and outs and hiring international talent during this session.
Session presenters:
Joyce Ward, International Student Advisor, Designated School Official, Alternate Responsible Officer
- Building Your Employer Brand on campus – Get ready to develop your campus employer brand in this interactive session. We will devise creative ways to tell your company’s story and learn how to leverage your company’s differentiators into a well-known employer brand college students can readily identify.
Session presenters:
Emily Neuberger, M.Ed., Employer Relations & Outreach Manager, UMKC Bloch Career Center
- Exploring Non-Traditional Sources of Early Talent: High School Students –More than ever, organizations need to be expanding their approach to early talent recruitment. While campus recruitment has typically focused on college-level talent, high school students are increasingly starting to plan their careers and seek to build career-relevant skills before they’ve started college. In this roundtable discussion, learn about engaging high school students as a source of building an organization’s talent pipeline.
Discussion facilitators:
Kristie Larson, Strategic Relationship Manager, The DeBruce Foundation
Thalia Cherry, Director, Pro X
- Certifications – Certifications and continuing education are vital to many professions and can help recruiters simplify the hiring process. This roundtable will discuss creative ways certifications can be used in the recruiting process to fill in gaps and retain talent.
Discussion facilitator: Jake Akehurst, Executive Director, UMKC TalentLink
- Retention – More and more employers are investing in employee retention. Hiring can be expensive and it’s easier to retain great employees than hunt for new ones. Additionally, great employees can help shape a positive work culture, thereby attracting more great employees and boosting your company’s productivity. Join the discussion to share ideas for retaining talent with fellow recruiters.
Discussion facilitators:
Katie Friend, Talent Acquisition Lead, Spotlight AR
Grace Hanne, Innovation, Government of Johnson County, KS
Anna Hennes, Program Leader, Kauffman Foundation
- Rotational Programs – One of the value elements of rotational programs is the “high touch” appeal they have with quality recruits. Explore rotational program ideas and learn how to make rotational programs appealing to students, and what factors drive candidates’ decisions to pursue and participate in these programs.
Discussion facilitators:
Maggie Reyland, Talent Mobility Manager, Dairy Farmers of America
Elizabeth Karr, Early Career Talent Strategist, Commerce Bank
Mariah Jordan, HR Strategic Program Manager, Commerce Bank
Noon Lunch and Keynote Speaker: Jeff Fromm – Student Union, Room 401
This year’s keynote is Jeff Fromm. Jeff is a 5X author, writes at Forbes, and consults at the intersection of innovation, marketing, and sustainability. He led the first public study of “Millennials as Consumers” in a joint research project with the Boston Consulting Group in 2010/2011. Jeff has literally spoken all over the world but not Antarctica so please book him if you have an event there.
