AFFINITY: a feeling of closeness and understanding that someone has for another person because of their similar qualities, ideas, or identity
AFFINITY GROUP: a group of people having a common interest or goal or acting together for a specific purpose
Affinity groups, also known as employee resource groups (ERGs), bring together employees with similar backgrounds or interests and can have a powerful influence in the workplace. Companies have long realized the power of affinity networks to help their employees navigate culture, offer networking, professional and personal development opportunities, and to ultimately attract and retain employees.
Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce wants all workplaces to be spaces where ALL employees, regardless of background, identity, culture, or other facets, have a community to which they belong. We want all affinity groups to have the support they need to thrive. We believe equipping existing affinity groups and emerging groups with the tools and resources will allow them to take their work to the next level and allow for more robust, inclusive, and equitable employee experiences.

If you are a Company Sponsor or Group Leader interested in joining a discussion on how the Chamber can create a forum to connect existing or emerging ERG groups and leaders so we can learn, share, encourage each other as we expand and scale the professional growth of LGBQ+ individuals through affinity groups please join us on Thursday, March 25th at 8 a.m. for our LGBT ERG Resource Group kick-off meeting. In addition to a discussion forum, we’ll feature a couple of ERGs sharing what they are doing, learning, and problem-solving.
