Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and trauma-informed School Counselor to support students who have experienced adversity and trauma. The counselor will play a vital role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment that promotes emotional resilience, academic success, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Counseling

Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address emotional, social, and behavioral challenges related to trauma.

Develop and implement trauma-sensitive interventions to support students’ emotional regulation and coping skills.

Conduct risk assessments and crisis interventions when necessary, ensuring immediate support for students in distress.

Collaborate with teachers to integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies into the classroom.
Family & Community Engagement

Work with families to provide resources, education, and guidance on supporting children.

Establish partnerships with community organizations, mental health professionals, and social services to connect students and families with additional support.

Maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively with caregivers while following legal and ethical guidelines.
School-Wide Trauma-Informed Practices

Implement trauma-informed policies and procedures within the school.

Conduct professional development for faculty and staff on recognizing trauma, responding appropriately, and fostering a supportive learning environment.

Develop programs and initiatives that promote mental health awareness, self-care, and resilience-building.
Academic & Behavioral Support

Assist students in setting personal and academic goals, offering guidance to overcome obstacles that impact learning.

Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
Qualifications & Skills

Master’s degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.

Specialized training in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and/or restorative justice preferred.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with students, staff, and families.

Knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma-related behaviors, and mental health interventions.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
