POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Pharmacy Technician will be to staff the Pharmacy, process new and refill prescriptions, provide support to the pharmacy staff for 340B implementation and processing, complete patient assistance applications and dispensing, and help to identify resources for patients to obtain cost effective medications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately process new medication orders using pharmacy software program including data entry, insurance adjudication and labeling for dispensation under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Process refill requests received by phone, fax, email, and in-person.
- Obtain Physician or Provider authorization for refill and medication changes as needed.
- Assist with patient assistance program application forms and patient assistance medication inventory.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking medication stock, anticipating needed medications and supplies, placing, and verifying receipt of medication orders.
- Regularly process outdated and/or damaged unused medications for disposal.
- Assist patients at prescription check-out window.
- Accurately processing cash and credit payments for prescription services.
- Answer phones promptly and greet patients promptly, providing solutions to patient concerns to ensure an overall great customer experience.
- Treats all patients and employees with dignity and respect including but not limited to using pronouns, preferred names, and talking to others in a non-judgmental fashion.
- Provides internal customer service by promoting a positive work environment, free of judgement, bullying, gossip, and negative attitudes/demeanor.
- Check and respond to voicemails within 24 to 48 hours.
- Check and respond to emails within 48 hours.
- Request pharmacist assistance for counseling and other tasks requiring clinical consultation.
- Meets deadlines set forth by pharmacy supervisor, managers, directors, vice-presidents, and chiefs.
- Complete any other task and duties as designated by pharmacy supervisor and pharmacists on duty.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pharmacy, including but not limited to cleaning workspace prior to rotation to the next workflow position.
- Document all incidents in the incident report system as designated by the KC CARE Policy and Procedure Manuals.
- Adheres to dress code policy as designated by KC CARE Policy and Procedure Manuals
- Adheres to technology policy as designated by KC CARE Policy and Procedure Manuals.
- Adhere to all additional policies and procedures set forth by KC CARE Health Center.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- State Certificate of Pharmacy Technician
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in Spanish and English
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six months Community/Retail experience minimum
- CPR/BLS certified
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Two years pharmacy technician experience
- Pharmacy Technician Board Certification
- Experience in a Public Health, Community Health, Hospital, or Retail setting pharmacy
- Point-of-sale and cash handling experience
