Therapist

The Therapist provides therapeutic services, including individual, family and group interventions within an outpatient, behavioral health setting. The Therapist will diagnose and treat an array of mental health disorders, monitor progress during treatment and work collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary team. Additionally, the Therapist is responsible for the development of treatment plans by establishing measurable, person-centered goals, objectives, and interventions with the client as well as determining treatment methodologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides counseling, brief intervention, and/or psychotherapy for clients and/or families.
  • Provides on-site mental health, substance use and dual diagnosis crisis intervention, screenings, and assessments, for patients referred.
  • Collects client level data through interview, case history, psychological tests (e.g.. OQ45) and/or observational techniques; evaluates data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach or referral to other specialists.
  • Creates, implements, and co-facilitates group therapeutic services for specialized programming and populations.
  • Accurately and in a timely manner maintains appropriate case files through the preparation of treatment plans, discharge plans, progress notes etc.
  • Follows up to determine reliability and validity of treatment used and makes recommendations regarding modification to services and service delivery.
  • Participates in quarterly peer reviews.
  • Assists in the supervision and training of KC CARE behavioral health volunteers and/or students as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with KC CARE staff and local human service organizations, treatment centers, and other community-based organizations to facilitate appropriate care coordination, information, and referral.
  • Participates on a multi-disciplinary team to provide clinical insight, feedback and suggestion on client progress and continuity of care.
  • Communicates effectively and respectfully to patients, staff, and relative team members through various forms of communication channels.
  • Attends, participates, and satisfactorily completes mandatory in-services and educational programs to maintain appropriate clinical licensure.

 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's or degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
  • Licensed in the State of Missouri as a Clinically Licensed Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Six months of related experience which may include internship and/or practicum.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to diverse groups of people.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Doctoral degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology

Working Conditions

General working conditions are in a healthcare facility. As such, there is a potential exposure to virus, disease, and infection from patients while performing the duties of this job. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric traumatized and deceased patients. Travel may be expected to community meetings, client homes, or other agencies.

Physical Demands

While performing duties of this job, employees are regularly required to set, walk, and stand; talk and hear; both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office or clinical equipment; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read, analyze, and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with others outside of their department.
