Summary

The Advanced Technology Development group at KCNSC is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead design and manufacturing efforts for parts, fixtures, and tools in support of advanced and complex engineering projects. In this role you will integrate your experience with mechanical design, manufacturing, and machining knowledge to deliver a successful result.  This role includes exposure to additive manufacturing processes, polymer materials, research and development projects, and advanced 5-axis machine control.  Relevant experience with any of these disciplines is a plus.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

Designs and/or develops new products/processes, special instruments, and unique equipment to meet specific requirements of customer orders.

Develops and assesses production or inspection operations and sequences, equipment , tooling gages, or acceptance equipment and processing methods required to manufacture or inspect complex components and assemblies.

Translates design agency concepts into production items by coordinating the activities of engineering, quality, manufacturing, and related organizations.

Estimates set-up times, operating times, and flowtimes, as well as production and acceptance needs.

Compiles cost estimates and delivery quotations, monitors performance, and prepares reports, statistics, and recommendations for management review.

Plans and performs engineering testing and development programs and uses advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve engineering and production problems and to assure product manufacturability.

Analyzes processes, products, and inspection records to anticipate, identify, and correct problems and to establish quality levels and trends.

Refines product definitions, based on knowledge of manufacturing capability, to assure that released designs can be produced.

Determines acceptability of products and materials in conjunction with design agency and other affected organizations.

Interacts with design agencies and suppliers to assist in resolving design, development, production, and acceptance issues.

Provides project leadership and technical guidance on complex engineering projects.

May perform other duties as required.

Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established ES&H requirements to ensure the protection of associates, the public, and the environment. Takes actions necessary to ""stop"" work when an unsafe condition or action is identified. Every associate has the right and responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified.

You Must Have

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering  

Four or more years of relevant experience in engineering, analytical, or related technical activities.

Must be a U.S. Citizenship to obtain US Department of Energy "Q" level security clearance.

We Value

MS in Mechanical Engineering preferred with 2 years engineering experience.

Desired experience includes hands-on manufacturing through design, building, and troubleshooting.  Hands-on machining experience is also highly desirable.

Desired knowledge base includes solid understanding of drawing definition and making/inspecting product to definition.

Desired skills includes SolidWorks or Creo, and a basic understanding of machining tools (mill, late, etc.)

Additional preferred experience includes using additive manufacturing methods to build near net parts.

Successful candidate is quality minded with high attention to detail.
