National Archives to Host Uniquely Na...
Description
National Archives at Kansas City will screen the documentary film Uniquely Nasty: The U.S. Government’s War on Gays. It will be followed by a panel discussion with equality policy advocates. A free light reception will precede the film at 6:00 p.m.
Uniquely Nasty explores a dark and little-known chapter of America’s recent political past, when gays and lesbians were barred from working for the U.S. Federal government. Through its “sex deviates” program, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) secretly collected hundreds of thousands of files on the sex lives of American citizens.
Following the screening of the film a panel discussion will be moderated by Christopher Leitch, with Kristi Smith Wyatt of the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Kendall Seal, an attorney in Kansas City and board member of Promoting Equality for All Missourians (PROMO), and military analyst LTC Dr. Robert Hill, USA Retired.
To make a reservation for this free film program email kansascity.educate@nara.gov or call 816-268-8010. Requests for ADA accommodations must be submitted five business days prior to events.
This program presented in partnership with the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Mid-America at the University of Missouri – Kansas City; the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce; and Promoting Equality for All Missourians (PROMO).
