The City of Overland Park has a part-time Child Watch Attendant position available in the Parks and Recreation Services Department.

SUMMARY:
Responsible for the safety and supervision of children while their parents are participating in on-site recreation activities or classes at the Community Center. Check in children, collect fees, perform light custodial duties. Engage and conduct activities with children. Primarily provide a positive play atmosphere for children ages 1 year to 10 years of age. Majority of the kids are toddlers and preschool age.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Check in and out children. 
  • Supervise children and enforce rules.
  • Engage and conduct activities with children. 
  • Operate software programs for all transactions. 
  • Create a playful and safe environment. 
  • Collect program fees. 
  • Perform Light housekeeping duties and Organize toys. 
  • The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable. 
  • The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors and any other persons or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Minimum High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in childcare watch preferred

SKILLS: 

 

  • Attention to detail. 
  • Basic mathematical and accounting skills. 
  • Human Relations/Interpersonal skills. 
  • Time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines. 
  • Written and oral communication skills.

 

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out assignments through oral and written instructions. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to work in a hectic environment with many interruptions. 
  • Ability to learn and understand PC software applications. 
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to count money. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • Ability to make and receive phone calls. 
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to distinguish smells. 
  • Ability to operate power and/or hand tools. 
  • Hand and eye coordination adequate to input computer and typewriter. 
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. and transport 20 feet. 
  • Ability to stand and / or walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to reach. 
  • Ability to crawl. 
  • Ability to bend. 
  • Ability to stoop. 
  • Ability to climb. 
  • Ability to push and pull. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (Direct &Indirect): 

 

  • None

 

No City residency requirement.

Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, physical exam and essential functions test.

Normal Work Hours: Variable Hours - Part-Time

Pay Rate: $15.00 Per Hour
